There's one reason to have written this book, and that's a really weird desire to further spell out Christopher's incestuous attraction to his sister. In great detail. Chris is somehow even less likeable in this than he was in the original series, although still less creepy than Kane. I'm sorry, but he had a wig made out of Kristin's hair, and she didn't run and put out a restraining order on him? The whole thing got more and more ridiculous. It's poorly written, the story of Kane and Kristin outside the diary is incredibly slow, with the same "thoughts" being repeated over and over again. They keep hinting to Kristin's dad knowing more and there being a deeper secret, but obviously he doesn't know the "surprise" (read: totally predictable ending), so what exactly was the author alluding to again and again? Save your money. Read the original series, and know that this adds absolutely nothing.

So I gave the first book a pretty good review, and I stand by it. The story line was fabulous! So there is a girl named Kristen who finds this diary and she started reading it with her boyfriend in her attic. I liked Kane in the first book, but slowly he started to creep me out. He started wearing a wig, he was being all weird with Kristen in the attic, and he got her to wear her mother's nightgown and a scarf. Wth? I'm sorry but no. I would never wear my late mother's nightgown with a creepy guy like that. At least Christopher had some class with Catherine besides the rape part of course. I found it a good story though and all the complaints I have written just add the goodness.Only one disappointment with this novel. What in the world is wrong with this ghostwriter? I'm not a novelist or anything, but is an author supposed to recycle descriptions? One part in both novels Kristen goes with her dad to a place called Charley's Dinner, and it's described word for word the same in both. Also the description is the same for Charley in both novels. I feel like that's a sacrilege to Authors. Come on dude change it up a little. Reword it or something but don't make it word for word. I think the Andrew's family needs to hire a different writer because the one they have and have always had is getting mighty sloppy. And his sloppiness has put a scar on the Dollanganger series which should have ended at Garden of Shadows. The Flowers in the Attic series is like a temple for the fans of Andrews so what Neiderman was thinking, I have no clue at all

Since finding Dawn in the library in 6th grade, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with the books branded by the iconic brand, VC Andrews. With few exceptions, I have looked at these pulp throwbacks as an interesting way to mark the passage of time. The newest series, The Diaries series, examines the haunting story of the Foxworth family (of Flowers in the Attic fame) through a new generation reading the lost diary of Christopher Dollanganger/Foxworth.Kristin was able to hide the diary found by her father at the raising of Foxworth Hall from every one, except her father (of course) and her classmate, the rich Kane Hill. Kane takes an interest in Kristin, and moreso, the diary. As Kane and Kristin discover bits and pieces of the life her distant relatives led during their attic imprisonment, they also fall under the Intoxicating spell of the Diary. And as the brother and sister in the attic share a morphing relationship, so does the relationship between Kane and Kristin. But is Kane really with Kristin, or is he just using her to get more information about the Foxworth’s local legend?I have to be honest, once I was figuring out where this was going (and how this was merging into the next book in the series), I fought the urge to toss it across the room. I won’t spoil it, but seriously I was a little bit annoyed and also partially a little warmed by the concept presented in the book—especially since seeing the lifetime movie remake of Flowers in the Attic. There have been so many discussions about VC Andrews, herself. First, she was still alive, then her death was hidden—because she left notes. Now, I have an inkling of her ghostwriter (whom, by the way, I read books from before the internet existed readily!), and I am pretty sure the notes are exhausted—and that is okay. And I am apparently drinking the Kool Aid because I preordered the next book in the series—I also blame my #bookocd for needing to finish series. The story, while providing a modern take on a ‘classic’ story, is not without the cliches of other books in Andrews’ ‘body of work.’ There’s always a girl, who sets herself apart from the trappings of so many of her friends. She’s considered snobby because she holds herself to a higher standard, and then she meets a boy, usually rich, who stops doing all the things he’s notorious for to bare his soul to her. Usually they do the deed and then things change. Granted, there wasn’t a lot of Cinderella-type work in this one. And, while her mom was dead, Kristin had a great relationship with her father.Overall, it isn’t as terrible as some of the other books; I mean that as a compliment in a weird way.Again, they already have my money for the next one, but I feel my interest waning.

I'll start by saying that the actual "Christopher's Diary" entries, the title upon which it is based, is misleading. We don't get a single diary entry read until we are some 56 pages into the book. That being said, it depends how invested you can become in the story of Kristin Masterwood, her boyfriend, her dad, and her friends at school (who really cares?). They spend plenty of time with the politics of Kristin's relationships, as well as her excessive introspection into Christopher's diary and what each aspect of it means. There is a lot of "foreplay" leading up to the real issues promised by the title, with very little delivery. Not that Kristin is a bad character; she's intelligent enough and not totally dysfunctional like the rest of VCA characters. It's just that we spend 90%+ of the time on her and her life and very little seeing Christopher's actual diary. Regarding his diary, there's not too many new insights offered, just a recap of their time in the attic, with no additional insight.SPOILER ALERTGetting the book might be worth it for the last three pages, which throw a serious twist ending to the whole premise of FITA. Original fans will either rejoice or be upset by this canon-changing development. Rest assured, it's a major one, and the only major insight the book has to offer.
