The ACA has been a challenge for small employers, to say the least, in providing an affordable health plan with broad access to care. Improved regulations surrounding AHPs, such as definitions of employers (including the self-employed) and organizational structure and bylaws supporting financial stability (and reduced fraud), is a welcomed change for the future. I am eager, both as a Benefits Advisor and small employer providing group health insurance to my employees, to see the expansion of AHPs in the immediate future.
This is an excellent primer for anyone interested in how insurance works and what is driving cost as well as the new push for association driven health plans.
