It has been six years since Becky and Linda last updated The New Applique Sampler and, although their techniques have not changed significantly over the years, more tips and techniques have evolved. I was particularly impressed by the instructions and the very close-up photographs. There are 9 applique blocks to make miniature quilts, 5 new quilt projects which include detailed instructions and full-size pull-out patterns, plus the basic stitches are shown for those who stitch right-handed or left-handed. This is an excellent guide to most types of applique and well worth a place on your reference shelf. Many of their designs are whimsical and this applique sampler certainly follows their trend. The book includes nine different blocks to mix, match and combine and they are all delightful. The book also covers in considerable detail and with excellent photos the applique process, including tips and tricks. In “The Best-Ever Appliqué Sampler from Piece O'Cake Designs†you will find all their basic techniques that you know and love have not changed that much over the years. They have added more techniques and tips plus 9 new appliqué blocks to make miniature quilts or mix-and-match samplers. There are also 5 new quilt projects that include complete instructions and a full-size pattern pullout. Everything you ever wanted to know about how to go about creating appliqué can be found within the pages of this book. You will find a good solid list of supplies to get you started. That is followed with information about color, contrast and value then general appliqué instructions. You will learn about stitching order, preparing a background for appliqué, making and using templates for both hand and fusible appliqué and working with an overlay to name a few of the techniques that you will find in the book. The basic stitches are presented using clear instructions and excellent close-up photographs. I might add I was delighted to see these instructions for both right-handed stitchers and left-handed stitchers. Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins started Piece O' Cake Designs in 1994, shortly after meeting at a local quilt guild. Linda's eye for color began with hair and makeup when she owned a beauty salon. Becky has a degree in interior design and has taken many art classes. Their varied backgrounds have combined quite well to make their quilt designs distinctive.

Piece O'Cake Designs always has beautiful quilts in their books and this is no exception. What I did find different in this was the amount of instructions. It covers everything you need to know about applique. My favorite part is the section on selecting fabrics. Great examples ranging from color values to patterns. The projects themselves are fairly small and there are only a few in the book. This is more of a technique book. (Though the projects they do have are really nice!)
I own most of the Piece O'Cake books and patterns - this one is a HAVE TO do for myself. Love how cheerful it is and the 16 inch blocks mean you can make a wall hanging in almost no time at all! Photos of applique methods are almost like being in class with Becky.
Piece of Cake designs are the ones you go to again and again. as an avid quilter of over 25 years, I am pretty picky about what books I buy. This book is great and full of designs and excellent instructions. I was happy to add this to my collection. You will not be disappointed
Great deal prime. Fast delivery, so convenient. This book has it all if you are a beginner or confident applause sewer. Instructions are full and easy to follow and the beautiful pictures help a lot. Great projects. What's not to love.

I own several books/patterns from Piece O'Cake Designs and have taken a class from Becky Goldsmith -- I mostly bought the book for the designs -- the book has good lessons for new and experienced appliquers -- even tho I took the class, I do not follow all of the rules as presented.A good book if you are looking for whimsical designs
This is the clearest book written for someone interested in learning applique. I teach applique and will recommend this book to students.
