I discovered Ed on the VINwiki YouTube channel and was immediately enchanted by his phenomenal storytelling. I heard about this book and eagerly picked it up to see if it would match up with his video tales. It went well above my expectations.This book is a collection of car stories, reflections on faith, and a decade-encompassing pursuit of a wild dream told through a unique blend of comedy, straightforwardness, and raw determination. One of my favorite parts of the book is how Ed brought in so many people to tell their perspective of the story - it really reinforced how much of a team effort this was.I couldn't put it down and stayed up irresponsibly late on weeknight to finish it. You won't be disappointed!

There are only a few books that are primarily about Cannonball. Brock Yates, Alex Roy and now Ed Bolian have written down their story. This is more than the autobiography of a driven man, it is the inside details, the nitty gritty how to of underground long distance outlaw racing.

A fast read (pun intended). Ed Bolian has a knack for storytelling. Achieving his life-long goal of beating the Cannonball Run record is a story that resonates with all manner of automobile fans. And stories of selling Lamborghinis to some REALLY interesting people makes for a great light-hearted story.

I could read or watch Ed Bolian on YouTube all day long. The man simply knows how to tell a great story. And this great true story is told very well and is quite captivating. I found it hard to put down and it left me wanting more.

Along these lines, after Machiavelli wrote THE PRINCE and before he published it, he wrote a small work entitled “The Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca” that illustrated the importance of caution and diplomacy instead of endless conquests. The key was that princes should keep the limitations of their successors in mind when planning military campaigns. After all, princes die young sometimes.Nothing clear is presented about how a prince should deal with his subjects. A prince might need to kill them, but should leave their property and women alone. He should disarm them so they can’t overthrow him. But what if the principality is being invaded and he needs armed subjects to help him fight the invaders? Liberality is the quickest way to be despised by the subjects, but they should be given festivals and spectacles. It’s confusing and I may have missed it, but he provides no historical examples of princes that prevented unrest and those who failed to do so.What’s also confusing is what everyone focuses on when they talk about this book. I'm referring to the morality of the prince. Must he have a moral duty, breaking conventional rules only when they interfere with this duty? Or is it permissible for him to be a beast who only cares about his own pleasure and glory? I’m not sure what this book really says about that.However, THE PRINCE is a valuable early work of political science. The method is pretty good. Ideas are developed from axioms of human nature, then backed up with historical examples. It’s worth reading.2.8 stars

I often heard of this book but never read it and after reading it I am sorry I didn't pick it up sooner. Some people think that the book is cruel and calculating, but I think it is very insightful of how governments take over countries and keep their citizens in line. Some times it means killing the old administration (literally) and other times it means employing citizens in new territories that you are trying to take over. The writing wasn't convoluted at all. It was very clear and well written. This is definitely a book you can read over and over again.

A great thesis worth multiple readings. This collection of essays and letters are one man's fascinating take on politics and war. The only thing which takes away from the overall work are the appendices which try to spoon-feed conclusions as opposed to providing context for the greater work.To be able to read and understand this book correctly, you must be prepared to spend some time understanding the politics and conflicts of the time. That being said, it's the only way to do it and be able to grasp more than surface conclusions. Being able to read and understand the work changed my understanding of not just politics, but also my interactions with different groups both socially and in my work life.

The idea of "reviewing" this is more than a little silly -- it's arguably the most influential non-religious work of all time -- but I thought a few comments & historical notes might still be worthwhile."The Prince" was essentially the first work of political realism in Western thought -- the first work of Western political philosophy that concerned itself not with the ideal government (as Plato had done in his _Republic_) but with the practical realities of getting and holding power. To describe the impact and influence of that willingness, that first notion that conventional morality might not be the best guide to success, would be as impossible a task as trying to summarize the influence of Galileo. Napoleon is rumored to have written extensive annotations to this book; Stalin allegedly kept a copy on his nightstand. So far, the questions from chapters 1-5 all matched the US version. Saved me a lot of money!There are some minor misprints, typos, smudges, etc throughout the text, but I don't know if those are also present in the normal version or not.As far as the book goes, the reading is mostly great. I wish it would go into a little bit more basic explanation on some things, as it feels like you need a lot of prior knowledge about the inner workings of computers to comprehend what it talks about. The end of chapter questions are the worst example of this. For most of the questions, you simply cannot answer them without serious google research. The reading does not prepare you for the questions.

This is how a technical book should be written. It's a nice middle ground for those of us who don't want to read a pure technical book, but has really great information. Definitely better than The Design of the UNIX Operating System. That book put me to sleep after 1 chapter. I think the two books complement each other, but unless you're a die hard Linux nerd or someone who really needs to know the exact details of how the UNIX OS works, I'd recommend Modern Operating Systems. I'm an Android Dev, and there's a great chapter about Android.

Thanks to my embedded/real-time OS instructor for recommending this book for our reference. The book is amazing and very easy read as the OS concepts are explained very well. The author(s) goes to a deep level and covers several topics including Virtualization and Cloud and Security. He also has a case study of Unix/Linux/Android and Windows 8. I highly recommend buying this book, reading it and owning it!!!

Great book, well written and covers a ton. Quality of the global edition is perfect. Not going into detail on the content, just wanted to say I have no regrets getting the less expensive global edition.After posting this review for the global edition I see that it shows up for the paperback non-global edition. Looks like an even better deal at $25 vs $50 for the global. Somehow I missed that when I placed my order but was glad to not have to shell out $175 for the hard cover version!

This book is really good to understand the concept of OS. The writer goes very deep in all topics of OS. It teaches all core concepts of OS. I highly recommend it for self taught people and people who are learning OS in school. great overall.

He even gives you a brief explanation on the C language (on the version I bought, anyway), which helped out a lot since we needed to program in C/C++ and I am a student who began programming in Java; yes, those two languages are VERY different.Overall, if you need to take a class that requires you to buy this book, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Highly recommended to all lovers of psychological thrillers!

Tightly written, but somewhat predictable medical thriller. Abbey, a young surgical intern with a brilliant career ahead of her stumbles onto a sinister crime syndicate. This a story told well, but a story that is a little overdone in the anals of medical thrillers. The medical jargon was trying at times. A bit too much med-speak for the uninitiated. This is probably my first and last medical thriller for 2017.

I love all of Tess Gerritsen's books and this was super exciting. A wealthy woman and a teenaged boy need heart transplants. The boy was near death and got the transplant. The wealthy woman's husband is incensed and makes one of the transplant doctors life miserable and frightening. There is something evil and dark going on and it is up to Dr. Abby DiMatteo to find out why transplant team doctors are committing suicide and why she is being followed and having her career threatened. Fast exciting read.

This is the first Tess Gerritsen book I've read and it kept me reading long past my bedtime! Very suspenseful and a little scary to think that a black market for organs for transplant probably does exist. If people have enough money, they can buy anything, even another person's life to selfishly save their own. I would encourage anyone who reads this book to immediately put on their driver's license that they want to be an organ donor. Only by having more legally obtained organs available will black markets be put out of business. I would hope that due to the fictional nature of this book there would not be so many unethical doctors involved in such a scheme but anything is possible for money. Read it, you won't be disappointed.

I LOVED this book! Unlike Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles series, this one taps into her medical background to create a story about transplant surgery and some of the terrible things that can go wrong. Her main character, Abby, is a resident in the transplant unit. What a closed society! As you read along, you begin to see why. Gerritsen has done a great job of keeping the reader on the edge of her seat. I dare you to put it down for long!I believe this was her first book. The writing was excellent. In my opinion, better than some of the R & I's books. Can't wait to read more of her earlier books!

As a novice bird watcher, I have enjoyed using this guide. I have already spotted many birds shown in the guide. It fits in pocket or purse.

Very nice fold out laminated bird guide. Illustrated listing of birds in Alabama. Listed in four categories; Birds of Prey, Perching birds, Doves/woodpeckers, water and nearshore birds. The guide has a map of Alabama birding hotspots. Obviously it doesn't list as much information as a bird guide book would, but if you are just looking for basic identification then this will be perfect for you.

As new backyard birders in Alabama, we think this is terrific. Easy to keep always handy, laminated so mostly waterproof and very sturdy. For us the only downside was that one entire side involved water/near water birds. HOWEVER, since we are ordering one for the car and one for the truck and we visit my parents who have a pond in their front yard, this 'con' will soon be a 'pro'. Best bang for the buck I've seen in a long time.

Bought this for my elderly father, he loves to watch the birds. This is a really nice guide, sturdy and very colorful. Easy to identify the birds. Great product!!

My six year old grandson carries this pocket pamphlet with him everytime he goes outside. He has found the name of several birds using this as a resource. It is very durable and user friendly. However there is not a lot of information on the birds...just pictures and names.

once we got rid of the squirrels we finally got birds to visit and this guide lets us identify out visitors!

I feel very hurt by this "seller." they never answered emails. I'm still wondering if they are intentionally preying on people.It is not cool!They are very aware that these books are for students and lots of us don't always have the resources to buy the new books. Meanwhile I wait on this book, the class moves on. Totally hurting me! I am very hurt and frustrated now. Thanks!It is just unreasonable that it would take 4 weeks to ship 1 book! I bought this book for myself while I was in college. It contains may great stories that you are sure to love, I still read this book every now and then. I would highly recommend this book.

I had only placed this order because one of my high school teachers accused me of having not turned in a book, that I had never actually received. I know he said I hadn't turned in the book to keep me from graduating, and having been in his class for only three days, and his improper documentation of my book number; my assistant principal suggested instead of paying $45 for the book brand new, I order one off of Amazon. The order was JUST in time for my graduation, and was in excellent condition. I walked with my class and was able to shove that one right up my teachers a**.

I like the stories and make this book delighted to read! I ordered other books with this and the condition of the books or to say the covers were dirty and I had to cleaned it and couldn't return these books because my semester was about to start and I did not have other choice then to keep it:(

great guide book! I would recommend to anyone with no clue on how to start BUT- Don't take this as the one and only way to write a screenplay. It is a creative field and you have to do your proper research, read a lot about writing and creating, there are many many ways to go about it.

Written by accomplished writers and neatly edited by UCLA Extension, this book contains A wonderful collection of tips and tricks for screenwriters new, intermediate and advance. The book is a Must have if you want to write for film, or if you already are and want to improve your craft.

great read. Authors are professional, seasoned writers. Great tips and exercises to apply to your writing. Book is paperback and at least 1" thick. Very helpful and is written to the point. No jargon. Plain English yet comprehensive. Give it a shot. After all, it's from the #1 writers program in the U.S.

Very insightful. I especially like the part where the one contributor talks about working on Tarzan and how she formats her synopsis when she gets an idea. I found this book more useful than some other writing books I purchased.

Good screenwriting book that came recommended by a well-known script consultant

I learn hands on. Over the course of the past five years, I have read many books on screenwriting, but none were as complete or as supportive as this. It is great to have so many common sense ways of writing a screenplay in one book. As another reviewer said, I think the book benefits from a different author for each chapter. If you've read a lot of screenwriting how-tos some of this book will not be new to you. What is new is the supportive way certain chapters are written. Quentin Peeples' chapter on rewriting is worth the price of the book alone. This is one of those few screenwritings books I feel like I can benefit from because you almost feel like you have that extra guidance while reading this.Interestingly, many recent films are dissected unlike most screewriting how-to books which mention the same titles over and over again.If you're new to screenwriting, you will find Cut to the Chase very helpful. If you're not, and need some motivating, you may still find this helpful and get a little chuckle from the ego-stroking (hey, it's Hollywood.)I am in UCLA Extensions' Writers Program, but have yet to take a screenwriting class. Affter devouring this book, I know which UCLA Extension screenwriting professors I will take screenwriting classes with in the future. I look forward to working with this and some of the folks who wrote Cut to the Chase.
